From three street children in Korogocho to ten counties across Kenya.

For three decades, Good Neighbors has walked alongside Kenya’s most vulnerable children and families — protecting their rights, restoring their dignity, and helping them build lasting independence. This is how the journey began, and where it stands today.

Good Neighbors is an international humanitarian and development organization founded in 1991. For over three decades, we have responded to the call of the most marginalized and vulnerable people — beyond ethnicity, religion, belief, and nationality — dedicated to protecting their rights and fostering self-reliance.

In pursuit of lasting impact, Good Neighbors implements a community-inclusive and holistic strategy. Engaging with over 200 communities around the globe, we are empowering people and transforming communities through social and economic development.

Our journey in Kenya

Thirty years of showing up — and staying.

  1. Children at a Good Neighbors centre in Nairobi

    1995

    It began with three children in Korogocho

    Good Neighbors began its mission in Kenya focusing on street children in Korogocho, Nairobi’s largest slum. A children’s centre gave those who lacked food and clothing a safe haven, and introduced them first to informal education, then formal schooling.

    The initiative started with just three children — identified, sponsored, and enrolled in a boarding primary school.

    1997

    Healthcare for those who had none

    Good Neighbors Kenya extended its impact by opening a medical clinic, providing healthcare services to underprivileged community members and street children — meeting urgent need while building trust within the community.

  3. Good Neighbors staff distributing relief supplies in Dandora

    2000

    Expanding to Dandora

    Operations expanded to Dandora Slum, supporting vulnerable neighbors affected by hunger, disasters, and oppression. The goal: improve the quality of life for children, and foster community resilience and self-reliance.

    Today

    Ten project areas across Kenya

    In collaboration with partners like the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Good Neighbors Kenya now works to empower 21,500 children and their parents — transforming their communities and creating sustainable change across:

    • Nairobi — Korogocho, Dandora, Mukuru
    • Kajiado — Bissil
    • Narok — Meguarra
    • Kisii — Ogembo
    • Siaya — Rarieda
    • Embu, Turkana & Marsabit

“Good Neighbors exists to make the world a place without hunger, where people live together in harmony.”

Good Neighbors respects the human rights of our neighbors suffering from poverty, disaster, and oppression, and helps them to achieve self-reliance and rebuild their hope. In Kenya, that means walking with the most vulnerable children and families — not for a season, but for as long as it takes to build lasting independence.

Guided by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, we put children’s rights at the center of every programme — from education and protection to health and clean water.
Accountable to Kenyans
As a registered Public Benefit Organisation, we pursue financial and operational transparency — publishing our spend, impact, and independent audits for the communities we serve.
